How to Take Better Photos with Your Partner

Through the years we have worked with several wonderful photographers and we have picked up several tips to take better photos together.

Since I have started this whole blogging endeavor, John has taken more than his fair share of photos.  Let me just take a quick second to say how much of a good sport he is! John and I typically tag team product photography, but there are plenty of days where I get him in front of the camera.  Through the years we have worked with several wonderful photographers and we have picked up several tips to take better photos together.

Last month, we got together with Savannah wedding photographer, Lauren Imus to take some sunrise pictures downtown.

Lauren's tips for looking natural in photos are to have fun and play! Lauren also stresses how important it is to find a photographer that you trust.  She says if you are worried about how the photos are going to look then it's going to show in the finished product.

My favorite way to take better photos is to get moving.  When you are walking you aren't thinking about posing! Just walk slowly and make sure you smile.

John's favorite way to get natural looking photos is to say jokes or completely inappropriate things in my ear until I laugh

I'm sure I was saying, “John Holland, you can't say those things in public” LOL

One of my pet peeves is smooshed faces.  Even though it feels cute to have our faces super close together, I rarely like how it turns out in photos. A good rule of thumb is to touch not press.  Look at the difference between these two photos. The first one you do not see outline of our foreheads or noses and it makes our faces look flat.

Even though it is almost the exact same pose the second pic you can see the full outline of our facial features.

The best tip I can give you is to be in the moment and don't put undo pressure on your partner. It is supposed to be fun so enjoy the process!
