It is absolutely no secret that John and I are crazy cat people. Our little pride of five kitties includes Sylvie, Toulouse, Luna, Drogo, and Cersei. All five kitties were bottle-fed rescues that we inevitably foster failed. In addition to our five permanent residents, John and I have fostered over 40 kittens over the past 4 years. When you think about it, only keeping five our of forty is a pretty dang good success rate—at least, that's what I tell people when they balk at the thought of five indoor-only kitties. 😉 Since I have so many kitties, I am so excited to partner with ARM & HAMMER™ Cloud Control™ Clumping Litter to share the scoop (pun intended) on how we keep the space that we share clean!
My kitties consider themselves to be chief quality officers of my blog, Moderately High Maintenance. They take their job of supervising all photo shoots very seriously, to the point of me having to encourage them to not put their nose in every. little. detail. It's a very rare blog post that doesn't have at least one pic of their “supervising skills”
This being said, it's always fun to get great photos of them living their best life in our home. Living their best life means a clean and smell-free environment, and that's why I'm excited to share three ways to keep your house clean with indoor cats.
How to Keep your House Clean with Cats
1. Use the Right Litter
We have three different litter boxes in our house, and I am always on the hunt for litter that keeps what should stay in the litter box actually in the litter box. We recently decided to try ARM & HAMMER™ Cloud Control™ Clumping Litter and let me tell you, it's a big hit with kitties and humans alike!
I mean, you don't get a much better stamp of approval than two cats in the box at the same time! The kitties love the texture, and we humans love that it is 100% dust-free so you can breathe easy, and it reduces airborne dander and other nasties when you scoop it. It's conveniently located in the pet aisle at your local Kroger.
You know I wouldn't share something with y'all without sharing a deal. You can save $4 when you buy ARM & HAMMER™ Cloud Control™ Clumping Litter 14lb or 19lb size using Kroger Grocery Pickup! Convenience and savings all at the same time! It's a win/win situation!
2. Vacuum Daily
I am a firm believer that if you have indoor animals, a vacuum needs to be brought out every single day. Since I don't want to manually vacuum all of my floors daily, I rely on my robot vacuum to run while I am at the office. I use a hand vacuum to touch up the furniture and any other high traffic areas as well. The key here is daily maintenance so the fur shedding situation doesn't get out of control. I am blown away every day how the robot vacuum picks up what looks like a small animal's worth of hair. If you are feeling really frisky about the hair situation, you can do what my Mom does and shave all of your cats. No, I'm not kidding.
3. Weekly Full Litter Change with Liners
I'm sorry but no matter how you spin it, the only way that I have found to keep my house not smelling like cat box is by fully changing all of the litter once a week. I LOVE the ARM & HAMMER™ litter box liners and in addition to scooping regularly, I swap out and throw away the used litter every week the night before our trash is collected. This weekly step along with using ARM & HAMMER™ Cloud Control™ Clumping Litter helps keep your home smelling fresh.
