Every year we get to head up to WI for a little work as well as some fun. We start the trip in Door County and then make our way down to Green Bay. Door County is such a quaint area with beautiful scenery, great restaurants, and lots of shops! Here are a few of our favorite spots!
The White Gull Inn
The White Gull Inn is a bed and breakfast in Fish Creek. My parents actually stayed for a night and said it was one of the best experiences they have ever had on vacation. Franklin and Mel said that the linens are exquisite and that every detail is thought out. I have been to the White Gull Inn for breakfast and it is spectacular. Door County is known for their cherries and The White Gull Inn has a cherry French Toast that has been featured on Good Morning America as the best breakfast in America. I am more of a savory breakfast person and absolutely love their eggs Benedict and their nice guy hash. The nice guy hash has sautéed peppers and onions, sour cream, and cheese over perfectly browned shredded potatoes! YUMMM! OOHHHH and their hazelnut coffee is out of this world delicious!!
The White Gull Inn is definitely worth your trip up to Fish Creek.
Plum Loco Animal Farm
Let me start out by saying that I am pretty sure that I am about 20 years older than their target demographic. Since this was a business trip, my travel companions were my parents. I am pretty sure they thought that their days of taking me to an animal farm ended a long time ago HOWEVER, we had a great time feeding the animals at Plum Loco Animal Farm. I love their mission behind their farm and it seems that all of the animals are loved and get wonderful care. Anywhere that I can hang out with sheep, goats, donkeys, and horses I am a huge fan. This is just affordable family fun!
Salmon Fishing
I have mentioned our salmon fishing earlier in my seasick post, but it is really a great experience. We head out of Sturgeon Bay on our salmon trip and always catch lots of fish! The 4am call time to the boat is a bit of a doozy but in the end it's worth it. We stay at The Lodge at Leathem Smith and the location is perfect because it across the street from the fishing at Madelyn Marina (I'll let it slide that they have spelling issues lol). The lodge even has coffee and breakfast for you before you leave for the boat. I will give a disclaimer that the lodge is a bit rustic for a Moderately High Maintenance Maven, but it more than makes up for it with it's super nice owners. Do not stay here after the White Gull Inn, end your trip with the amenities of the White Gull. If you are going to be in Door County, going out on Lake Michigan is definitely a must!
