7 Bucket List Worthy Destinations

7 Bucket List Worthy Destinations

So many of you have realized by now that John and I absolutely love to travel.  We enjoy trying new things, new foods, and having adventures together.  We are now in a season of life where we are fairly footloose and fancy free so we are trying to fit in as many new adventures as possible. When we were dating, we started an ongoing list of places and experiences we wanted to do together.  The list is pretty top secret, but I can share 7 of our bucket list worthy destinations!

1. Maldives

The Maldives are a double chain of 26 atolls located in the Indian Ocean.  We would love to SCUBA dive here as well as stay in one of the breathtaking overwater bungalows!

2. Praia da Marinha, Portugal

Praia da Marinha is located on the Atlantic coast in Caramujeira, Lagoa Municipality, Algarve. According to the Michelin Guide, it is considered one of the top ten beaches in Europe and one of the top one hundred beaches in the world! The view from the top of the cliffs makes Praia da Marinha a bucket list worthy destination!

3. Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

Jasper is considered the gentle giant of the Rockies.  Jasper is internationally-renowned for hiking, wildlife viewing, and skiing at Marmot Basin.  You can find some of North America's rarest animals, including healthy populations of grizzly bears, moose, caribou, and wolves.  We would love to do a little skiing and wildlife viewing. Preferably, not all at the same time.

4. Stingray City, Cayman Islands

Stingray City is a location around the Cayman Islands where fishermen used to clean their fish and throw the excess back into the ocean.  Over time, the stingrays realized this was a great place for an easy dinner! It has become a location where you can go to feed and view the stingrays in their own habitat. Stingray City is such an amazing experience for divers and snorkelers alike.  I have been here as a SCUBA diver but John has never had the pleasure so we would love to go together. I will warn you though, the stingrays have absolutely no concept of personal space so don't freak out when they touch you or even suction you! We would love to feed the stingrays and enjoy even more of Cayman diving.

5. Silfra, Iceland

The Silfra fissure is a crack between the North American and Eurasian continents. Silfra is the only place where one can dive or snorkel directly in the crack between two continental plates. The visibility here is unsurpassed by just about anywhere in the world, but the water is COLD at about 37 degrees Fahrenheit. We will definitely have to mentally and physically prepare ourselves for this one!  Touching two continents at the same time underwater makes Silfra a bucket list worthy destination.

6. Zakynthos, Greece

You may be noticing a trend that we are beach/water people.  We can't help it, we like what we like.  John has traveled to Greece before but I have not.  I am itching to go see these beautiful blue waters.  I would love to travel to all of the Greek Islands but Zakynthos is definitely on the top of my list in Greece.

7. Mendenhall Glacier near Juneau, Alaska

The Mendenhall Glacier is a thirteen-mile-long river of ice, which terminates on the far side of Mendenhall Lake. Gaze upon blue icebergs floating in the water amidst reflections of Southeast Alaska’s magnificent Coast Mountains. The Mendenhall Glacier and visitor center is easily accessible from Juneau.  We would love to visit Alaska and experience all that it has to offer and Mendenhall will definitely be one of our stops.
