For those of you new to this little home renovation series, we started with our multi purpose home office last week. We started a remodeling project on a house built in 1940 about two years ago. It’s a really cool 4,000 sq. ft. house that was converted into a duplex so the space is divided into an upstairs unit and a separate downstairs unit. John and I live in the upstairs. Our space is 2,000 sq. ft and a two bedroom/ two bath with a living room, dining room, kitchen and a home office. One of the most drastic changes in the house was our master bathroom. The space was not functional before and had these two HUGE dressing type spaces with a lot of wasted space and then a super tiny area with a sink, toilet, and shower/tub combo all crammed together. Needless to say this wasn't working for me. SO here we go, lets take a journey.

So now you know what we were dealing with and understand all of the demolition you are about to see!
Huge shout out to our friends, especially our friend Jeff, who helped us do all of the demo work throughout the house! Just looking back on these pictures makes me worn out and sore! Anyways, I knew that I wanted his and her's sinks, separate closets, and my huge soaking tub from the 3 ways to manage stress post. Fitting all of that into the space efficiently took some planning. The main item that we had to work around was fitting the 6′ tub in that space. We moved pipes around and pushed the toilet back into what was previously that second closet area.
This was our plumber having a discussion about how he had no idea why someone my size needed a tub this big… HAHA
We wanted a spa type feel so we opted for white subway tile and kept the accent lines to tans, blues and teals. As we progress further through the house you will see those colors are throughout.
Keeping with the light and airy theme I opted for a white washed wood tile. One of the perks of this floor is that it keeps with the color scheme but since it has the “wood” grains, it hides when I shed a small animal every time I blow dry my dark hair.
We also grouted with bone color grout.
We went with cream cabinetry and white marble tops.
As I said before I wanted his and her's sinks and closets so in the area that was that huge waste of space I added a corridor that houses the closets directly across from each other and has a vanity area for me at the end of the corridor. The paint color is Behr Almond Wisp and the trim is white.
One of the things I love about the closets are the differently spaced shelves so I have places to store my flats, heels, and boots.
My Vanity area has plenty of space for me to spread out my things and most importantly it has a TON of light. One of the great things we did in regards to lighting was use LED bulbs that do not produce any heat. Even when I am blow drying and have a million heat styling tools on it still stays pretty cool in there. Another note is that the cabinet has drawers in it. I keep all of my make up bags and items I use daily neatly in the drawer. I am able to pull them out when I need them and then easily store them when I am done. No sprawl and messy sink top.
Then of course when you are taking pictures for the blog the kitties think its time for their close up. The picture above and below were taking within a span of 10 seconds… that's how serious they are about their photo bombing hobby.
And who doesn't need a full sized mirror for those last minute checks before walking out of the door? John uses it to practice his golf swing, go figure. (He thinks I don't realize he does that haha)
