The theme of mine and John’s year has been fewer, better. I have been figuring out how that translates into all areas of our lives and as the year has progressed it has really taken on a theme of sustainability. In January we made the decision to consciously and systematically remove single-use plastics from our home. One of the first major changes was to completely eliminate plastic water bottles and start carrying reusable water bottles. We had always used bottled water because the water available in our town is notoriously bad and bottled water was just easy to grab and go.
I’ve partnered with Primo® to share how to make your home more sustainable and add disaster preparedness into our life with one simple step. Keep reading!
How to Make your Home More Sustainable with Primo
After several months of using the “filtered” water from our refrigerator, we started looking for alternatives because the water from our refrigerator still had a weird taste and for whatever reason dispensed water at a snail’s pace. We decided to add the Primo Deluxe Bottom Loading Water Dispenser because we get the same great taste of bottled water without compromising sustainability. I love that we can refill or exchange our 5-gallon Primo Water bottle whenever we run out at a local store we shop at all the time anyway.
Each 5-gallon refillable/ exchangeable Primo water bottle saves up to 1,100 single-use bottles from the landfill. Primo water goes through a multi-step purification process that includes reverse osmosis, so it is some of the best tasting water I have ever had. Through this switch, I also learned that adding a water dispenser to your home results in families drinking 25% more water – that is staggering!
In addition to the great taste, our Primo dispenser also adds a TON of convenience. You have all temperatures of water available with options for cold, cool, and hot. John and I are both tea drinkers and LOVE that we have piping hot water on demand for our tea.
In addition to the convenience and value it adds to our lives, it also is great for our fur babies. I mean, let’s be real I’m one of those people who works hard so my pets can have a better life so naturally they play into most decisions. Kidney disease is one of the leading causes of death in cats. This is why hydration and having high-quality water is important to the health of my little pride of (5) cats. I have noticed that they drink a lot more water when it’s from our Primo dispenser. Primo even has a dispenser that includes a pet station!
Living in South Georgia, we can just about count on at least one hurricane gracing us with its presence every single year. The last couple of years we have lost power. I get really tired of making that mad dash to the store every year for that water, bread, etc. essentials run. When I found out that Primo has a manual pump that attaches to the exchangeable 5-gallon bottle, I was SOLD. Anything that keeps me out of the store with the storm crowd is a game changer.
If you are wondering if you have a Primo refill/exchange station in your area, let me ease your mind. If my small town of 10k people has multiple stations, I can pretty much assure you that yours does. However, the easiest way to find one is by putting in your zip code in their location finder. You can find that here.
Y’all know I wouldn’t share one of my favorite items without sourcing a deal for you! Use code WATERGOALS25 which provides for 25% off the dispenser, FREE fast shipping + a FREE coupon will be mailed for 5-gallon bottle of Primo water and another will be in the box when delivered. You can also pick up the manual pump on the Walmart website. It’s so popular it’s already sold out on the Primo.com website.
