We've all been there, that awful place of just finishing the last season of a show and not knowing which show to watch next. It's such emotional roller coaster to know the happiness of the ending but then there is the sadness of the show being over. Don't worry, I've got ya covered. Here are a few ideas for your next binge in no particular order.
*Disclaimer: I base these choices on entertainment value only so they may not be appropriate to watch with the entire family…*
1. House of Cards
In case you have been living under a rock, House of Cards is the Netflix original political drama that everyone has been talking about since 2013. It's definitely a thinking show but it will grab your attention very quickly and you will keep wanting to hit next even if its 2am. It's set in present day and eerily has a lot of similarities to the current day political scene. My personal favorite character is Claire Underwood because she is a strong female lead with aspirations as lofty as her husband, Francis. Four seasons have been released so far and the fifth is set to premier in early 2017.
2. Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is the HBO's medieval fantasy drama depicting George R.R. Martin's best-selling book series “A Song of Ice and Fire”. It's the depiction of two powerful families — kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars and honest men — playing a deadly game for control of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, and to sit atop the Iron Throne. From personal experience, give it at least four episodes to capture you. They are setting up the story and a lot of characters. It will be worth it, I promise. My personal favorite character is Daenerys Targaryen, a strong female character. Notice a trend? She is touted as the mother of dragons, I identify with her because I am the mother of kittens.. same thing, right? They have completed five seasons and season six is airing now on Sunday nights.
3. Breaking Bad
Now this one is one of my favorite suggestions for a couple of reasons. First, it is a great show with appeals for just about everyone. Second, the show is completed so you can truly binge until the end and not have to worry about ever waiting for another season. It's the story of mild mannered high school chemistry teacher, Walter White. He is diagnosed with terminal cancer that threatens to ruin his family financially. Walt takes matters into his own hands and starts cooking meth as a way to provide for his family after he passes. As you can imagine, things get crazy pretty quickly with family drama, drug lords, the cartel. It's a great show. There are five seasons so it will keep you watching for awhile! You can watch full episodes here.
The first comedy on the list! Entourage is HBO's story of Vince, an up and coming actor, and his 3 besties as they move from Queens to Hollywood to pursue his acting career. The foursome navigates the acting and movie scene with hysterical antics and it will definitely make you want to keep watching. This is also a completed show so you will not have to worry about waiting on another season. The bonus with Entourage is that there is a follow up movie that is just as good as the show! You can find Entourage on HBO Go.
5. The Mindy Project
Mindy Lahiri is a successful, skilled doctor, but when she leaves the office, all bets are off. She aspires to become a more well-rounded woman, someone who is punctual, frugal and well-read instead of someone who is obsessed with romantic comedies and likely to give an inappropriate toast at a wedding. Despite stumbles, Mindy remains determined to get her personal and romantic life on track. The writer, Mindy Khaling, was one of the writers on the office so you can expect witty humor and banter throughout the entire show. Probably more of a chick show but John tolerates it. It was originally aired on fox but its new home is Hulu!
